As we swing into Fall, our list of the best free fun in Austin returns! This month, you can look forward to Austin Museum Day, Longhorn City Limits and even more free fun events.

Best Free Fun in Austin Events – September 2025

Feel Good Fest and Longhorn City Limits

Located on the LBJ Lawn and free for all fans, Longhorn City Limits (LCL) is college football’s premier gameday concert series. To kick off the season, LCL’s presenting sponsor Hollister will debut its first-ever college campus edition of Hollister Feel Good Fest. This free, one-day music festival experience for University of Texas students is happening on Friday, September 5, at the LBJ Lawn. The lineup includes headliner Two Friends, the prominent producer/DJ duo behind the cult-favorite “Big Bootie Mix” series, rising pop star Natalie Jane and Adrien Nunez, a country music singer-songwriter.

Longhorn City Limits will open officially on Saturday, September 6, at 8 a.m. prior to Texas Football’s home opener versus the San José State Spartans. Y’all Out Boy will perform at 8:30 a.m. Following the game, Texas country singer Cory Morrow will take the stage around 2:30 p.m.

In addition to the September 6 home game, the following games will also be played at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium on September 13 vs. UTEP and September 20 vs. Sam Houston, when Bowling for Soup will perform.

Long Center FREE Community Day

The Long Center is hosting a free community day filled with music, workouts, food trucks, football and more! Happening on September 6, the event celebrates the Long Center’s mission of building community through creativity and continues co-founder Dr. Teresa Lozano Long’s vision of making the arts accessible to all. Pecan Street Festival

Pecan Street Festival is the largest street festival in Central Texas and is held at Hill Country Galleria twice a year. This fall, it’s happening on September 13 and 14. The festival features over 200 arts & crafts vendors, 35+ local & national music acts, 20+ culinary offerings, kid’s entertainment and an array of engaging sponsorship activations. Viva Mexico!

The Emma S. Barrientos Mexican-American Cultural Center will host its 17th annual Viva México celebration outside of the Oswaldo A.B. Cantu/Pan American Recreation Center on Saturday, September 14 from 5 to 9 p.m. This lively outdoor celebration on the hillside includes live mariachi music and folkloric dance performances, family-friendly art activities and a vendor market.

Fiesta de la Independencia de México

The La Fiesta del Grito de la Independencia de México is happening from 6 to 9 p.m. on Monday, September 15 at Republic Square Park. This free event marks the 215th anniversary of the beginning of the independence of Mexico. The highlight of the evening will be when Cónsul General of México Humberto Hernández Haddad reenacts the cry for independence. Entertainment will feature the Roy Lozano Ballet Folklórico, Mariachi Capital and other bands. The event will include a Mexican artisan mercado; a community resource fair with information on health care, immigration and the Texas, Mexico and Austin shared history; as well as children’s activities.

Outside the City Limits (OCL) Summer Concert SeriesConcert Series for Flood Relief

Every third Saturday of the summer, Vista Brewing hosts the Outside the City Limits (OCL) Summer Concert Series. On September 20, they are donating a portion of sales during the concert to July 4th Flood Relief. This is the final Flood Relief concert. While this is typically a free concert series, they are asking for a $5 donation which goes directly to flood relief.

Austin Museum Day

Happening on September 21, Austin Museum Day is a free celebration of art, culture, history, music, nature and science. Over 30 museums in the greater Austin area will welcome visitors with special programming including guided and self-guided exhibition tours, activities and more for visitors of all ages. HAAM Day Music Festival

HAAM Day Music Festival 2025 is more than just HAAM’s largest and most important fundraiser of the year. It’s also the world’s largest one day, all local, music festival! 250+ performances, at more than 105+ venues, featuring 300+ local musicians in less than 24 hours. On September 23, you can enjoy performances at grocery stores, restaurants, shops, rooftops, parks, iconic live music venues and more. Performances are free, open to the public and family-friendly!
