We already told you all about glamping in a yurt, container, and cottage. This Summer, we’re introducing you to three more unique glamping locations including a retro trailer, safari tent, and even a glass bubble.
Plan a summer getaway to these unique glamping spots near Austin!
Blue Skies Retro Resort
Location: 13372 N State Highway 16, Fredericksburg
This Palm Springs style retro resort is perfect if you’re looking for a getaway that’s remote, yet close to a lot of activities! Nestled between the Texas Wine Trail and Enchanted Rock, Blue Skies Retro Resort is located in Willow City which is less than a two hour drive from Austin. There are five Shasta trailers, each with private yards and a tiny bathroom inside. The shower, however, is located in the trailer’s assigned bathroom located by the pool. There you will find a much larger space, complete with a large vanity, hotel amenities, and outdoor shower. Next to the vintage style pool, there’s an outdoor entertaining area with a fireplace and shared propane grill.
Pro tips: Make sure you bring snacks, water, etc. There is a fridge, microwave, and Keurig in the trailer with coffee and tea pods but it’s a bit of a drive to get supplies so bring along any sustenance you may need. Additionally, if you’re looking to dine nearby, check the hours and days of operation. Many places are not open on Monday and Tuesday.
Spoon Mountain Glamping
Location: 210 Masonic Lodge Road, Wimberley
Tucked into the cedars on a little hilltop in Wimberley, Spoon Mountain Glamping is a great place for a romantic getaway or even a girls trip. For the second option, we recommend reserving all three tents like we did!
Each safari style tent has tent has hardwood floors, stylish details, comfy beds, a full bathroom, a front deck providing gorgeous sunset views, and a back deck that includes a HUGE outdoor soaking tub. There’s also a community pavilion, fire pit, outdoor games, and hot tub. Spa services are available on site if desired. As if that isn’t enough, you’re just a hop skip and a jump from Blue Hole and everything else Wimberley has to offer!
Pro tips: leave the lights inside your tent off when you step out to use the hot tub, fire pit, or simply sit on the porch. Otherwise, when you open the door to go back in, the moths and other bugs may join you for the night.
Also, you have the option to roll the panels on the outside of the tent up or down. Though there are shades inside on the panels, we recommend rolling the outside ones down before bed so you have more darkness as the sun starts to rise. Unless you rise with the sun, of course!
Hozhoni on the Hill
Location: 4325 Cottonwood Drive, Cottonwood Shores
The world’s first glampominium, Hozhoni on the Hill has it all! The property includes safari tents, tipis and belle tents, each with private decks. But the highlight if Hozhoni is most definitely the Stardome Suite! Treat yourself to incredible views of the sunset and night sky, as you relax and refresh in a clear dome perched 101 feet over Horseshoe Bay. Where’s the bathroom, you ask? Don’t worry, it’s there! A private bath house and deck is located behind the dome and includes an indoor/ outdoor shower and an outdoor star-soaking tub.
If you’re planning a wedding, Hozhoni on the Hill can accommodate that too! Their chapel and reception area overlooks Lake LBJ and Lake Marble Falls, offering 360 degree hill country views.
Pro tip: if you’re staying in the Stardome Suite, plan to be out and about in the area when the sun is high in the sky. Though the bubble does have A/C, it gets quite toasty mid day and stays that way until early evening. Luckily, there are lots of great restaurants, shops, and nature nearby!

Bonus Location!
As an update to last year’s post, Yurtopia Wimberley now offers yurts with river access! The three Riverbluff Yurts can be booked together to accommodate a group, or you can rent just one at a lower rate than the other all inclusive yurts. Guests share two hot tub/ splash pools as well as a kitchen setup, and community yurt. Each standalone yurt does have its own bathroom and private seating area.
