Matthew McConaughey’s ‘Dazed And Confused’ Audition Tape Is Alright, Alright, Alright

Monday, The Criterion Collection released an audition tape for Matthew McConaughey‘s breakout role in the 1993 Austin-based classic “Dazed and Confused,” and it’s just as great as you imagine.

We all know that this guy is a terrific actor. Between his Academy Award for “Dallas Buyers Club,” his epic cameo in “The Wolf of Wall Street,” and last summer’s astonishing “Interstellar,” the Austin-branded actor is 110 percent on top of Hollywood right now.

But who knew that talent existed even before he was shuckin’ and jivin’ in front of Richard Linklater’s cameras? Anyone who saw this audition tape, is who.

If you enjoyed “Dazed and Confused,” this little video will convince you that even before he was famous, Mr. McConaughey was still alright, alright, alright. It’s clear that the role of David Wooderson is one that Matt was born to play. We’re just glad Linklater saw then what we see now: A true superstar.

Keep your eyes out for Linklater’s “spiritual sequel” to “Dazed,” currently in production under the title, “That’s What I’m Talking About.” The Criterion Collection’s definitive edition of “Dazed” is available now.
