Listen to Live Music

Summer in the live music capital of the world means exactly what you’d expect – tons of live music! Head to the famous Sound & Cinema event at The Long Center for local bands, classic films, musical tributes, and more on a giant screen. Eat from local food trucks and enjoy full bar service while lounging on the lawn. You can also enjoy the free Blues on the Green concert series at Zilker Park or head to the Skyline Theater for live performances overlooking Lady Bird Lake.
Eat Good Food
You can’t have summer without hotdogs and barbecue ribs, right? Head to Stubb’s Bar-B-Q downtown for incredible barbecue and live music at the state’s largest outdoor venue. If you’re a thrill seeker of the culinary kind, hit Crazy Ricky’s Dawg House for cheap delectable dishes and a fun bar atmosphere. Many people say that’s the spot for the best burgers in Austin! Burgers and barbecue not your thing? Celebrate summer in style at the Odd Duck, an upscale New American restaurant with a sleek, contemporary setting.
Hit the Keep Austin Weird Fest
Every June, downtown Austin turns into a celebration of all things weird. The Keep Austin Weird Fest and 5K boasts live bands, a costume contest, sideshow attractions, a 5K run with “fun stops,” and plenty of booths to toast to Austin’s beloved weirdness. This is a fun, funky, can’t-miss summer activity for all Austinites – families welcome!
With average summer temperatures in the 90s and even reaching 100 degrees or more, you’ll need to stay cool this summer in Austin. Luckily, there are plenty of public places to swim, boat, and paddleboard. Enjoy the three-acre Barton Springs Pool in Zilker Park or head to St. Edward’s Park for a scenic trail and swimming. Other places to cool down include Upper Barton Springs, Lady Bird Lake, Lake Travis, McKinney Falls, Twin Falls, and Mansfield Dam Park.
Enjoy Indoor Activities
Some days it may be too hot or rainy to enjoy the great outdoors. Instead, head over to one of the intriguing indoor activity centers in Austin. For example, enjoy educational fun at the Austin Nature and Science Center or indoor skydiving at iFly Austin. Play games at Pinballz Arcade or practice your golf swing at the completely covered range at Topgolf. If you’re feeling adventurous, head to the Panic Room, an escape room puzzle.
Don’t Forget the Ice Cream
Can you go the whole summer without ice cream? Not when so many delicious creameries are right nearby in Austin. Hit the Cow Tipping Creamery for artisanal soft serve or Lick Honest Ice Creams for more unusual flavors. Sweet Ritual offers vegan ice cream, while the Dolce Neve Gelato offers exquisite Italian-style creams. Just don’t let the Austin heat get to your ice cream cone before you do!
