How To Have a Perfect Saturday in Austin

It’s your day off. The sun is shining, blue skies are calling – what are you going to do in Austin on this fine Saturday? The answer…anything you want! Austin offers a world of opportunities for fun at your fingertips. Whether you’re into underground indie music concerts or boating on Lady Bird Lake, you can do it all on this Saturday. If you’re at a loss for how to spend your day, however, try out our favorite itinerary:

Morning: Coffee at a Local Shop

Aside from its music, Austin is famous for its coffee. Start your Saturday off right with a cup of joe from Epoch Coffee, an indie coffee shop with three convenient locations or hit Summer Moon for organic wood-fired coffee and snacks. It’s always a good day to support your local small business coffee shops – and there are plenty to support in and around Austin. Grab a bite to eat to prepare for your busy, fun-filled day ahead!

Mid-Morning: Hit a Farmers’ Market

Saturdays in Austin are perfect for going to your local farmers’ market. Find fresh produce, handmade goods, and delicious food from local vendors at the SFC Farmers’ Market downtown or the Barton Creek Farmers’ Market. Both are open every Saturday, unless poor weather causes them to cancel. Listen to live music, buy a bouquet of fresh flowers, and enjoy people watching at one of the most popular Saturday spots.

Afternoon: Lunch at a Famous Austin Spot

If you didn’t eat at the market, head for lunch at one of the many incredible places to eat in Austin. Grab homemade Mexican food at Torchy’s Tacos at their original, homespun spot in the trailer park on S. 1st Street. If burgers are more your thing, head to Hopdoddy on W. Anderson Lane. Buy the Magic Shroom crafted burger with Texas goat cheese and basil pesto or Te Fiti Tuna burger with sushi-grade tuna and hippie slaw. Of course, you can’t leave without one of their old-fashioned milkshakes.

Sunset: See the Sights

See beautiful sunsets with one of the many outdoor activities available in Austin. Bring the family to McKinney Falls State Park for a hike or take a stand-up paddleboard lesson on the lake. Climbing Mount Bonnell to watch the sunset is also a time-honored tradition for Austinites. And don’t forget — the bats come out at sunset. The more than 1,500,000 bats come out of their home under the South Congress bridge to engage in a feeding frenzy as the sun goes down.

Night: Go to a Live Show

Austin is the live music capital of the country! Check out Stubb’s Bar-B-Q for tickets to the latest shows at the city’s largest open-air venue or look into seeing a concert series at the Austin City Hall. Keep up with a music calendar online to see events playing near you this Saturday! And don’t forget dinner – make a reservation at one of the hottest restaurants in Austin, like the Velvet Taco or Pizzeria Sorellina. If you’re into board games while you dine, find more than 150 games at the Vigilante Gaming Bar. In Austin, every day feels like Saturday!
