Discover San Marcos Beyond The Outlets

There’s so much more to San Marcos than outlets malls and Texas State! Not sure where to dine, shop, or simply experience the city? That’s what we’re here for! Here are all the best things San Marcos has to offer.

Your guide to the Best of San Marcos!

Eat & Drinks

But first, coffee. We love how creative independent coffee shops can get, especially with their names. Wake The Dead Coffee House is probably one of the best one’s we’ve seen lately! Imagine if Tim Burton opened a coffee shop and there you go! If your taste is a little more minimal try Stellar Coffee Co. Serving all local coffee roasters and offering up a full espresso menu all with the simple message: ‘Be a good human being’!

San Marcos has an unbelievable amount of good food! For classic town square vibes try out Cafe on the Square, they have an awesome breakfast menu. For pizza with an illuminati theme try Pie Society. If you’re a fan of baked potatoes or ‘spuds’ try the local favorite Spud Ranch. We highly suggest the Frito Pie spud. As you can see from the picture, it’s insane(ly delicious)! If you can’t decide try Industry, they’ve got a little bit of everything so you don’t have to choose.

Beer culture is a thing and no one in Texas will tell you otherwise. For great local breweries try Roughhouse Brewing, Middleton Brewing, and Aqua Brewery and Beer Garden. They’re all great places to grab brew and a bite. Don’t forget to catch the ode to Austin’s ‘I love you so much” mural at Aqua Brewery!

Shopping

When most people think shopping in San Marcos they no doubt think about the outlets. There’s so much more than that. Now more than ever it’s really important to support local business so here’s a few of our favorite local shops. For the adorable boutique experience try River Rose. Pre-loved clothes are both stylish and eco-conscious try Vega Bond for thrift and antiques. For more eco-conscious shopping try Manor Market Refillery. If you’re wondering what that is, it’s a shop created to give people the choice of re-using containers rather than purchasing yet another piece of plastic. They also offer variety of non-toxic, all-natural, organic, vegan, and cruelty free products in Bulk. The last stop on our list is Herbs and Oddities, they offer everything from stones, smudge sticks, to palm and tarot readings!

Experiences

The LBJ Museum located in the heart of downtown San Marcos is an ode to not only our 36th POTUS but also to a Texas State alumni. Clearly both the man and his wife, the lovely Lady Bird Johnson made an impact on our great state to have so many things named after them. Find our more, or teach someone in your life about the man the LBJ abbreviation by visiting the museum!

Like the Bootiful Boots of Wimberley, throughout San Marcos you’ll find ten different commissioned mermaids. The project belongs to The Mermaid Society and is meant to symbols the beauty of the San Marcos. Find the map and more about each artist on the website.

As of last week all parks and green-spaces have reopened! San Marcos has over 25 years parks for you to choose from. Find the full list of parks here. Our favorite park in San Marcos is Wetlands Boardwalk. This stunning green-space offers a close up views of abundant plant and animal life that thrive there. They offer guided and self-guided tours. Book yours today!
