Best Austin Parks: Mary Moore Searight Metropolitan Park

Summer is here and we know you’re looking for ways to get your family out of the house. What better way to do just that than by spending time at one of the best Austin parks? Every Monday this summer we’re highlighting an Austin park. This week, we’re taking you to Mary Moore Searight Metropolitan Park!

Due to the newest city regulations in regards to COVID-19 many of the parks in Austin are experiencing closures and reduced occupancy. Please visit Austin Parks and Recreations for the latest updates before you make plans to visit a park.

Mary Moore Searight Park
907 West Slaughter Lane

The park features six miles of trails with intermittent fitness stations and hike/ bike/ equestrian trails. Parts of the trail are not very stroller (or scooter) friendly, and are best explored on foot or by mountain bike. There are also many other options including picnics areas, playgrounds, basketball courts, disc golf, volleyball, and a soccer field. Note that many amenities, like playgrounds, basketball courts and such are currently closed due to COVID-19 guidelines. Check with PARD (parks and recreation department).

Moore Searight Park is an unexpected gem convenient for families in central, east, and south Austin, as well as the surrounding areas.

Don’t forget to bring along these items: water, sunscreen, bug repellent, and snacks!

Please keep in mind that we’re still practicing social distancing and parks can get crowded at various times. Be prepared and be respectful of those around you.
