The Austin Film Society has honored many entertaining Texans over the years. The list includes Erykah Badu, John Lee Hancock, Shirley MacLaine, Carol Burnett, Luke Wilson, Amber Heard, Matthew McConaughey, and many more. Now, we can add Glen Powell to that prestigious list.
AFS will induct actor, producer, and screenwriter Powell into the Texas Film Hall of Fame. Taking place on May 15, the honor coincides with the Netflix premiere of Hit Man at the Paramount Theatre.
More On The Glen Powell Film Hit Man
Powell stars in Hit Man alongside Adria Arjona, fellow Austinite Austin Amelio, Sanjay Rao and Retta. The Westwood High grad also produced and co-wrote the film with director Richard Linklater.
Inspired by the unbelievable true story of Gary Johnson, as chronicled in a 2001 Texas Monthly article, Hit Man follows a strait-laced professor who discovers he has a hidden talent as a fake hit man. He meets his match in a client who steals his heart and ignites a powder keg of deception, delight and mixed-up identities.
Powell previously worked with Linklater on Fast Food Nation (2006), Everybody Wants Some!! (2016), and Apollo 10 ½: A Space Age Childhood (2022). Most recently, Powell can be seen in box office hits Top Gun: Maverick (2022) and Anyone But You (2023). He also stars in the upcoming film Twisters, opening in theaters on July 19.
Hit Man will screen in select theaters May 24 and release on Netflix on June 7.
