Want to know about this week’s hottest headlines in Austin entertainment? You’ve come to the right place. These are the top five pop culture related stories with ties to the ATX.

Super Bowl Commercials More Entertaining Than Actual Game

Let’s be honest, this was one of those years that the Super Bowl commercials were way more entertaining than the match-up. Plus, two of the best commercials had ties to the ATX. Read more about those here. And see how ATXgossip ranked the best celebrity fronted ads here.

Luck Reunion Lineup Announced

Coinciding with their Lucky Draw Live event, the Luck Reunion announced the lineup for this year’s festival. In addition to Willie and Lukas Nelson, artists include Shakey Graves, Langhorne Slim, Nathaniel Rateliff, and a crap ton more.

300 lucky people got to purchase tickets to the exclusive festival on Thursday, and a handful others WON tickets as well as VIP experiences. Want to get your hands on a ticket? There will be one more Lucky Draw on February 22.

Here’s how ticketing works: you can enter the Lucky Draw one week from the on-sale date. Once you’ve entered a Lucky Draw, you are eligible for that individual round. Those who are selected will receive an e-mail with a purchase code for up to two tickets.

Keep an eye on the Luck Reunion website and social media channels for more info on the upcoming Lucky Draw!

Hayes Carll Performs at Cactus Cafe

As part of the Luck Reunion Lucky Draw previously mentioned, Hayes Carll played to a standing room only crowd at the Cactus Cafe. Mid performance, the Houstinite told an amusing story about not yet meeting Willie, though he’s been in the biz since the early 2000s. Perhaps this will be his year since the singer/ songwriter is playing the MainStage at the Luck Reunion.

Southwest: On The Rise to Luck 2018 winner Thomas Csorba opened the evening and we must say, that kid’s got it. And the term kid is absolutely appropriate as he is just 22 and currently in his last semester at Baylor. If you’re lucky enough to snag tickets, you can also catch him on stage at Luck.

New Republic Studios Welcomes More Film Projects to Central Texas

We took a drive out to Elgin this week to tour the New Republic Studios. One of just a few studios located in the Austin area, New Republic boasts 200 acres and offers three sound stages, ample production office space, two private screening rooms, diverse production- friendly terrain, as well as on-site construction builders and set designers. Mindy Benson serves as President of the studio as well as a board member for the Texas Motion Picture Alliance. Fun side note, her son Jack can be seen on screen in theaters as Matthew McConaughey’s son in Serenity.

We look forward to seeing New Republic Studios grow and attract more film projects to Texas!

SXSW Programming and Celebrity Attendees Keeps Growing

SXSW is inching closer and closer and more announcements are coming in daily. While the festival announced another round of film programming this week, we’ve been able to confirm even more celebrities attending the fest with various projects. Check out the list at ATXgossip.com.

Looking ahead

Inspired by the beloved films, the musical Anastasia comes to Austin this week. It’s playing at the Bass Concert Hall from February 12 through 17, you can learn more and purchase tickets here.

The Alita Experience, a tie-in to the Robert Rodriguez film Alita: Battle Angel, continues out near Troublemaker Studios. The interactive team building experience takes you inside the movie with real components from the set. Tickets are $25 and the experience is happening through February 13.

“The Walking Dead” returns to AMC on Sunday. More a fan of the Austin shot series “Fear the Walking Dead?” Check out our complete list of filming locations here.

And, of course, Valentine’s Day is this week. If you’re more of a valentines schmalentines kind of guy or gal, we recommend simply hanging with your bestie and watching one of these Austin odes to friendship. Or perhaps scary is more your style? We can help with that too. These horror films and shows were all shot in the Austin area.
