A First Timer’s Review of “A Christmas Carol” at Zach Theatre

We sent a first timer to see “A Christmas Carol” at Zach Theatre.
Here’s what she had to say and the magical musical production.

Most know the “A Christmas Carol” story – the famous Charles Dickens story where self-serving and insensitive Ebenezer Scrooge gets a wake-up call through visits from three ghosts. It’s a lovely Christmas story with a happy ending – reminding us to be generous, loving, and good stewards of the community this time of year.

While I knew the story, the ZACH production was a surprise. I was immediately put in the holiday spirit by the set adorned with a festive tree. The actors came out in the typical turn of the century attire, which was beautiful. And while the set and costume design transported me back to the Charles Dickens era, the music with anything but old. The score was completely modernized with songs adapted from Twenty One Pilots, Beyonce, and, new this year, Lizzo (just to name a few).

This was the first on-stage production of “A Christmas Carol” that I’ve seen, as well as an introduction for my 5-year-old daughter.  The modern music, imaginative set design, and lovely story from the diverse and fantastic cast kept both of us entertained. I believe I’ve found a new holiday tradition at ZACH Theatre for my family.

While you may have missed our giveaway to see “A Christmas Carol” for free, tickets are still available for the production which runs through December 29.
