Looks like it’s time to scratch another notch in the bedpost of Austin cuisine! Out of 30,000 nominations worldwide for the Saveur Best Food Blog Awards 2016, the Austin-based Let’s Taco Bout It Blog made the final six in the category of Best New Voice!

If you live outside of Texas or the U.S., this might surprise you. However, for foodies here in Austin or visitors coming through, it’s business as usual when one of our own gets well-deserved accolades! After all, in 2016 alone, Austin has been recognized for having the best ramen in the U.S.A., the best food trucks in the U.S.A., and – without resorting to hyperbole – possibly even the best restaurant in the U.S.A.

With tens of thousands of nominations for Saveur’s Best New Voice, the question you might be asking yourself is “What sets Let’s Taco Bout It apart?” Just this: the blog is actually a sort of book-club for foodies.

Recipes and directions to create dishes feature specific scenes taken from an ever-expanding variety of literature. With Austin placing 10th in the World Cities Culture Forum for having the most bookstores per capita, this blog took the pulse of Austin’s culture and ran with it!

The photos though… Sometimes that’s all you need. Feast your eyes on these:

Does that last one look familiar? If you’ve ever read or seen the film version of Laura Esquivel’s novel Like Water For Chocolate, this pic should make you hungry… And possibly a bit randy.

Austinites Charlotte Bonavida and Mica McCook teamed up with Stephani “Chefani” Casey to create this intriguing blog, which brings together two of Austin’s must-haves: food and books. Think about a time when you read a work of fiction and thought, “MAN, I want to EAT THAT.” And then encapsulate it in a great little website with lots of photos and a fun social presence.

If you’ve salivated through the quail scene in Like Water for Chocolate, heard your tummy grumble during The First Wives’ Club brunch bagels, or felt Harry Potter’s satisfaction as he tore into an herbed turkey-leg at the banquet in Deathly Hallows, then you can relate.

Vote today to push Let’s Taco Bout It Blog to the front of the list and lock down their Saveur Award for Best New Voice 2016! And while you’re at it, give ’em a follow on Facebook and Instagram — you’ll be glad you did.

And to Bonavida and McCook: Congratulations! You deserve the recognition. Keep up the great work. 🙂
