Sure, you can take Dad to one of the ATX’s amazing brunch spots on Sunday to celebrate his special day. But, if you really what to show your daddio that you think he’s the coolest cat in town, you may want to check out one of these hip happenings.

Thursday, June 15

Solstice Festival

Be a part of the Summer Solstice celebration as Austin joins in with hundreds of cities around the world to celebrate Fête de la Musique – aka World Music Day. The 4th Annual Solstice Festival will host concerts at multiple venues in and around the Red River Entertainment District, as well as 10 hours of nonstop music at the east side’s Pan Am Park. There will also be yoga workshops, an art village, and more events that celebrate music, art, technology, and life.

Night Swim with The Wild Now at W Austin

KLRU NEXT Night: “The Great British Baking Show!”

If Dad has a sweet tooth, bring him along to this KLRU event where dessert comes first. Decorate your own desserts and sample treats from some of the city’s favorite pastry chefs and dessert spots while sipping on rosé and brews by local favorite Live Oak. It’s all happening to celebrate the Summer return of the PBS series “The Great British Baking Show.”

DemographicsEnt Presents: I KPOP!

If your dad is a fan of KPOP, then he’s probably cooler than mine. You know who else is pretty cool? KPOP star G-Dragon who Forbes named the most influential person under 30 in Asia’s entertainment and sports. It’s a sure bet at least one of his 22 number one hits will be played at this I ♡ KPOP! event at Elysium.

ZTP’s Wizard of Oz Storytime at BookPeople

BookPeople and Zilker Theatre Productions invite you to a super special storytime with the cast of the 59th annual Zilker Summer Musical, The Wizard of Oz. There are sure to be plenty of lions and tigers and bears (oh, my!) on hand as a costume contest follows the reading. Dress as your favorite character and the cast could award you a wonderful prize.

Radio Controlled Airshow “2017 Ride the Lightning”

You and Dad can keep an eye on the sky at the third annual Ride the Lightning Electric Flight Event. All types of electric powered planes, jets, multi-rotors, racing quads, helicopters, and powered gliders will take to the air during this free event.

World Refugee Day

Help dad stay woke at the Bullock Museum with World Refugee Day. Watch a naturalization ceremony, enjoy free samples of world cuisine, live music, and activities for families with kids of all ages. Salt & Time Charcuterie Class

For the meat-obsessed pop, check out a special sausage making class happening at Salt & Time. This hands-on learning experience is hosted by the team who trained Jesse Plemons for his role on “Fargo.” Guests will be able to taste a bunch of options and take home several pounds of sausage they helped make. 8th Annual East Side Classic

Keep Austin Weird Fest and 5k

We all know it takes a certain amount of weird to fuel our beloved city and Keep Austin Weird Fest + 5K is the ultimate celebration. Don’t want to race? That’s OK. There will be hours and hours of live music, good eats, and plenty of weird Austin attractions. Plus, $1 of every ticket sold goes directly to the Central Texas Food Bank.
