Spending a whole day exploring South Austin is an easy task, but what about doing it all for FREE?! Discover how the whole group can enjoy the Austin way of life, without spending a penny, the next time y’all head to South Austin.
1. Bike the Veloway
The Veloway is a 3.1 mile long loop for cyclists and inline skaters to enjoy right in the Circle C Ranch Metropolitan Park. Surrounded by nature, this trail is open from dawn to dusk year-round, making it a favorite amongst locals, but just a great way to stretch your legs. Here’s everything you need to know!
2. Go for a Swim at Barton Springs Pool
Currently, swimming at Barton Springs Pool is FREE! Whether you are hoping to start the morning off with some laps, spend your afternoon sunbathing on the grass, or wind down your evening with a night swim, Barton Springs Pool is a must experience for those visiting Austin.
3. Stroll SoCo
New stores have made their way to South Congress, making the window shopping and people watching that much more diverse and that much more fun! Stumble upon a pop-up market, discover a street performer entertaining passerbys, listen to live music, and just get a real sense of that Austin vibe we all know and love. While you’re strolling down South Congress, swing by Music Lane for an even more upscale shopping and dining experience, with holiday decor along the way that is breathtakingly beautiful.
4. Head to Zilker Park
There are so many things to do at Zilker Park, and most of them are FREE! Zilker Park hosts a FREE concert series in the summer called Blues on the Green that hosts some amazing local and national talent. Check HERE for dates for the upcoming shows. When Zilker Park isn’t hosting Blues on the Green, you can find the 351-acre park filled with workout classes, picnics, reunions, birthday parties, yoga enthusiasts, and so much more! During the holidays, experience Zilker Park all lit up at Austin Trail of Lights, or watch the Austin skyline be filled with kites at the ABC Kite Festival in April. Zilker Park is a local hub for everyone in the community.
