New East Austin Bar Pumps Life Into An Old Gas Station

The team behind the Armadillo Den has opened another kitschy and creative cocktail bar in Austin. This one’s located on the East side and it’s serving up West Texas style vibes. Read on to see how Chalmers is pumping new life into an old Shell gas station.

Here’s everything you need to know about the new East Austin bar Chalmers!

The space includes a backyard with a live music setup, large front patio and quaint inside bar area. Featuring the captivating ambiance of the West Texas desert and inspired by retro gas stations and roadhouses you might find there, Chalmers is meant to exude southwest hospitality with touches of East Austin eccentricities.

There’s a kitchen serving up fun dishes like crispy fried onion rings referred to as a “Tumbleweed”, Cracked Wings, Fry Bread Tacos, Country Fried Steak Tenders, a Double Quarter Pounder Burger and Pecan Pie Brownie. In addition to food from the main kitchen, snow cone and soft serve trailer Sweet Nothings will be on site to finish off your meal with a sweet treat.

The drink selection includes a mix of specialty-crafted cocktails and local drafts along with the beloved draft cocktails that folks love at Armadillo Den and Dainty Dillo.

A few of our faves include the following:

  • Frozen Mexican Martini with reposado tequila, Cointreau, okra brine, and lime.
  • Desert Zombie with Tequila, mezcal, and an  island spice zombie mix.
  • Nitro Carajillo with Licor 43 with espresso, cold brew, on nitro with the option to add tequila.

What: Chalmers
Where: 1700 East Cesar Chavez
When: Monday through Wednesday from 4 p.m. to midnight, Thursday through Sunday from 12 p.m. to midnight, and 12 p.m. to 1 a.m. on Saturdays.
