Have you ever been curious about what’s happening at the Art Institute of Austin? Have you wondered about your own capacity for creativity, or your child’s? Have you wondered about how to make a career out of doing the creative work you love? Are you a creative warrior?
If you answered “yes” to any of those questions, RSVP now to AI Austin’s KNOW HERE Day Party to find out more about all the exciting things going on at AI Austin!
On Saturday, March 19, 2016, from noon to 8 PM, AI Austin will be offering FREE music and food, an interactive showcase of students’ work, and more at the Lewis Carnegie facility on E. Cesar Chavez St. Sound like standard SXSW day party fare? It’s not.
It’s a great chance to enjoy the day as you learn about AI Austin’s programs, including their international culinary school, media arts programs, fashion design and marketing, and more (view all AI Austin courses of study here).
The KNOW HERE party has been wholly designed and will be run by AI Austin students. Graphic & Web design students designed the Web site and the logo graphics, and advertising students designed the marketing campaigns for the event. Interior design students retrofitted the Lewis Carnegie design and gallery space, crafting a fun, unique look and feel for the party. Photography students will shoot the event while audio production students run the live sound, and culinary school students will present tasty dishes throughout the day. For anyone interested in finding out more about the Art Institute of Austin’s areas of study for themselves or their children, this is an excellent chance to see AI Austin students in action, doing hands-on work in real-time at the event.
The Food
Designed by students of AI Austin’s international culinary school, the KNOW HERE menu will include such mouth-watering confections as flavored popcorn; a Spanish white grape, garlic and almond soup; Asian eggplant salad; and sandwiches inspired by the Spanish Bocadillo, Vietnamese Banh Mi and Little Italy Hoagie. There will also be free drinks available for adults. Click here to view the full menu in the KNOW HERE brochure.
The Music
Bands and musicians including Austin favorites Ray Prim (12 PM), Jackie Venson (2 PM), Patrice Pike (3:30 PM) and Mingo Fishtrap (headlining at 6:30) will keep the party hopping, along with Papa Mali, from New Orleans (5 PM). Visit this page and scroll down to view the full music schedule.
The Student Work Showcase
AI Austin students’ work will be on display at the event, including screen-printed koozies, posters and reusable totes created by Advertising and Graphic & Web Design students; illustrations submitted by Fashion Design and Fashion Marketing students; and student-produced video games in the media gallery.
More About AI Austin
A branch of the Art Institute of Houston, AI Austin is not a fine arts school; rather, its programs focus on the commercial creative arts, for students who want to make a living doing what they love. In many senses, AI Austin offers a non-traditional educational program, and it welcomes students of all ages and backgrounds. While some students follow a traditional path into the program, entering straight out of high school, AI Austin is also honored to welcome many veterans into its programs, as well as people who have previously been in the work force. Many AI Austin students once thought college wasn’t for them, before deciding to go back to school to pursue their creative dreams.
AI Austin’s numerous areas of study include graphic and Web design; interior design; culinary arts and management; audio, video and digital film production; fashion design and retail management; video game art, programming and design; animation; and more.
