Between Gourdough’s, Donut Taco Palace, and Portland-based Voodoo Doughnuts, we Austinites devour our fair share of mouthwatering fried confectioneries in the downtown sphere. Recently, however, the nation has been giving North Austin’s favorite doughnuttery some serious attention, reminding us all that the lands above US 183 and US 290 can still contribute beautifully to maintain and build Austin’s unique reputation.
To those ends, Buzzfeed and Yelp teamed up recently to publish a list of “The Best Doughnut Shops In Every State” according to “an algorithm that looked at the number of reviews plus the star rating for every doughnut business on Yelp.” They named Round Rock Donuts (RRD, to us) as the best doughnut shop in the entire state of Texas.
RRD is widely known and loved for their “World Famous Glazed Donuts” and their “Texas-Sized” creations (mainly donuts and cinnamon rolls), but literally everything on their extensive menu is worth trying — even non-pastry foods like fruit kolaches and teacakes.
However, as far as donuts go, we recommend that you pay special attention to their maple-glazed and cake donuts, as well as their “Chocolate Covered Round Rock Donuts.” They’re divine!
