The city of Austin has two true loves and that’s brew and brew. We recently talked about our favorite breweries just outside of Austin, now we’re back to talk about our favorite coffee spots! This city is literally booming with great places to get coffee and beer – and, oh yeah, food. Whether you’re on your way in or out of the office, you’re working from home, or even if you just need a mid-day pick me up, the possibilities are endless.
Here are the best coffee spots in Austin to get your caffeine fix!
Stouthaus has been bringing coffee culture to South Austin since 2013. It’s the perfect place for a low-key local coffee (or beer). We suggest trying one of their creative but tasty seasonal drinks. They’re currently serving up a peach pie latte! Get it while you can.
Specialty coffee, elevated workspaces, and hospitality bars make Craftwork a unique brew experience. Sitting on two floors of the Flatiron Building in the Domain, this coffee/ co-working space includes common areas, shared workspace, and phone booths perfect for remote workers, coffee lovers, and freelancers. In regards to their coffee, they keep it simple, offering a single beverage size, easily understood menu, and a handful of signature drinks.
With tasty sandwiches like the Chipotle Chicken Sandwich and fresh Taco Deli breakfast tacos every morning, fresh pastries, and, of course, coffee, Thunderbird is the crown jewel of east Manor. This is another great space to work, kill some time, or grab a late afternoon/early evening beer.
With Peace Crops volunteers turned coffee roasters and a motto like “A better world with better coffee” it’s hard not to love Tiny House Coffee. Their bright and fresh shop is located on Barton Springs inside the We Work building. On top of making amazing coffee, Tiny House also provides some great fresh baked goods. So treat yourself.
This stunning coffee chain believes that good coffee doesn’t require change.
With locations in Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, Boston, and now Austin! They just opened their Austin location last year. If you’re into simple and traditional coffee, this is the spot for you.
Austin Java is a great place to get breakfast or to just grab some great coffee. Omelettes or breakfast tacos are sprinkled through the breakfast menu, and don’t sleep on the Chicken Satay Sandwich — it’s a time-tested favorite. With four Austin Java locations, you can easily get your fix. Pro tip: Try the fog cutter. It works.
In the middle of the Lake Austin entertainment district sits one of the more unique coffee spots in Austin. A large, cavernous deck greets you as you walk in. Once inside, you’ll find some great coffee, teas, ice cream, and desserts. If you’ve got some late afternoon work to get done, you won’t be disappointed. Grab an iced coffee, open up your laptop, and watch the sun set on the lake, and thank whatever deity you worship that you live in the greatest city on earth.
Just East of I-35 in old north/ central Austin, Cherrywood is a straight up staple. You won’t find anything out of the ordinary, but what’s done at Cherrywood is done very well! With a spacious outdoor patio, it’s the perfect spot if you’re working on your laptop or enjoying a cold drink post- hike with your four legged pal.

Yes, THAT Toms. The company that originally formed the one-for-one in need shoes has opened a coffee shop on South Congress. For every cup sold they provide a weeks clean water to someone in need. It’s great coffee, a great atmosphere, and a great cause. You can’t go wrong.
Cosmic Coffee + Beer Garden is the perfect spot to quiche your summer thirst. They have everything, seriously Their menu consists of cocktails, beers, classic coffee drinks and our personal favorite, boozy coffee drinks (pictured). It’s the perfect spot for everything and anything. Enjoy your beverage of choice on their patio. Did we mention that Cosmic was created by native Austinites, inspired by local culture and heritage. Cosmic is also a nationally recognized wildlife habitat providing shelter, water and food sources for a variety of creatures.
Tasty lattes, great taps, cool net-rustic design, and great food trucks. Their outdoor patio area with ample room inside to work tends to attract numerous digital vagabonds. One thing to note: They turn off their wi-fi network at night and on the weekends, which helps encourage folks to embrace their environment and focus on the events. Regardless this is a great spot with great drinks. Definitely an Austin must.

Representing the finest in quality-roasted coffee and draft beverages, the Spokesman is located in the trendy St. Elmo warehouse area complex called The Yard – also home to Still Whiskey and St. Elmo Brewing. The location is usually a café by day, bar by night though currently they are only serving from a window due to the pandemic. Hours are also currently altered. Click here for the most up to date info.
