This year more than ever Americans are being encouraged to vote. Regardless of where you stand, voting is a civic right and it’s refreshing to see so many people get involved. Austin itself is not just a melting pot of culture but also a mix of various political beliefs despite the state’s Republican dominance. With the Texas voter registration deadline of October 5 fast approaching, we thought it would be prudent to highlight some of the city’s most unique efforts to rock the vote Austin style.
Jo’s Coffee
Grab a cup of coffee and register to vote at the same time! Both the South Congress and Downtown locations of Jo’s Coffee are hosting the Travis County Tax Office this weekend in order to get you registered. On October 3 and 4 from 8 a.m. to noon you can swing by to register to vote AND snag a free Topo Chico when you register!
Little (Free) Democracy Center
Neighbors are taking it upon themselves to encourage others. In the Bouldin Creek neighborhood, you’ll find this play on the Little Free Library. You can find all the details you need to register in this yard. They’ve even included items to entertain your kids while you get set up! It doesn’t get much more Austin than this!
Drive-Thru Voting
The League of Women Voters Austin Area has been working tirelessly to make registration easier for the city of Austin. Their website is a great resource that we highly recommend checking out! This weekend, the LWVAA will be at the Alamo Drafthouse on Slaughter Lane offering registration via a drive-thru. So easy and so Austin!
Fit2Vote
Register and get a workout in at the same time! Fit2Vote will be taking over five studios across Austin for a highlighted class on Saturday, October 3. Expect a get out the vote-inspired playlist and onsite registration resources to check your registration OR register to vote. Find the full line up of studios participating here.
Register to Vote at Jester King Brewery
The Jolt Initiative will be at Jester King Brewery Sunday, October 4 providing you with your last chance to register to vote before the deadline. As a friendly reminder, you must have a reservation to dine and drink onsite at Jester King. Book here!
I Love Voting So Much
The League of Women Voters Austin Area teamed up with Jo’s Coffee to re-imagine South Congress’s iconic ‘I love you so much’ mural. It now reads ‘I love voting so much.’ You can visit the mural until November 4 and, more importantly, you can visit Ilovevotingsomuch.org for details on where to register before the deadline and where to vote this November!
