It’s one of our favorite Texan’s birthday but we’re giving YOU a gift. Pay homage to Willie Nelson by heading over to YouTube to watch his 1974 appearance on Austin City Limits.
The pilot episode of the Austin based PBS series was shot on October 17, 1974 and starred the legend and family. For the first 36 seasons, the series was taped at Studio 6A in the Communications Building B on the University of Texas at Austin campus. On February 26, 2011, Austin City Limits held its first taping in the studio it currently calls home, Austin City Limits Live at The Moody Theater. It’s situated on a stretch of 2nd Street appropriately called Willie Nelson Boulevard. Should you forget that the street is named after him, there’s a giant statue out front to remind you.
In honor of Nelson’s 87th birthday, ACL Live shared the recipe for their Red Headed Stranger drink. Here’s how you can make it yourself.
Oh, and in case you aren’t aware, the film Red Headed Stranger was shot right here in Central Texas on Nelson’s Luck Ranch where he hosts his annual Luck Reunion. Here’s why you should never miss it!
