10+ Fashionable Instagram Accounts To Keep You Up On Austin Style

0 comments

The “September Issues” have hit newsstands, the fashion week schedule is well underway for the season, Burning Man is fresh in the visual minds of creative types, and all eyes will be on the ACL festival style soon. If you’re truly into fashion, then style inspiration is both on your mind and dominating your Pinterest account right about now.

Not all trends and styles are possible in the Texas heat, however, which is why we love these 10 Instagram accounts (in no particular order): They mix fashion-forward pieces with the casual vibe necessary in a place where three of your four seasons are summer, all with personal style and a strong point of view. Give them a follow to find out how they keep it stylish on the streets of Austin day-in and day-out, and maybe most importantly: where they shop locally to make it happen.

10. The Uber Stylish Mom — Cristina Facundo

Stylist + magazine publisher
@CristinaFacundoStylist

Not only is Bocanegra one of Austin’s most sought-after and badass magazine stylists — creating spreads for Tribeza, Austin Monthly, and Southern Living as well as local brands like Kendra Scott Jewelry, just to name a few — but just recently, she also launched her own chic online lifestyle magazine for parents, Love Child, WHILE she was pregnant with her first baby. Mamas (and dadas) to-be should take a long stroll back through her feed for loads of rainy day style and wellness advice, as well as profiles.

9. The Edgy Minimalist — Joanna Wilkinson

Blogger + boutique owner
@AustinStylish, @OnceBitten

Wilkinson has long inspired local trend seekers through her blog, Keep Austin Stylish, and when she opened her own online store in 2015 there was a built-in customer base just chomping at the bit for her signature curated mix of edgy classics and modern minimalism with a retro, 90s-era goth/grunge flair. “She nails the badass, sexy, modern look, always,” says local style coach Laurel Kinney. “Edgier gals should definitely hit up her shop, Once Bitten, for offbeat basics.”

8. The Normcore Queen — Chanel Dror

Executive Producer, CamilleStyles.com
@ChanelDror

In addition to quietly powering one of the most-read lifestyle and entertaining websites based in Austin, Dror also quietly inspires all the other creatives with whom she works and collaborates in this town. Apparently, she also crafts and sings!

7. The Jet-Set Hipster — Lee Anne Benjamin

Entrepreneur
@LeeAnneBenjamin

As the co-founder of Austin Passbook, you’d expect Benjamin’s feed to be a constant source of wanderlust — and it is, whether that’s just staycationing locally like a tourist or getting on the first flight out of ABIA. But it’s Lee Anne’s wardrobe that really keeps us coming back: an elevated mix of preppy basics and trendy athleisure that is both pretty and utterly packable. She also twins with her baby boy, who is utterly adorbs.

6. The Vintage Maven — Bonnie Barton

Fashion Blogger
@FlashesofStyle

Channeling both Bettie Page and Amy Winehouse, Barton fuses quirky vintage pin-up and rock ‘n’ roll looks so seamlessly that you would think she was a native Austinite — or the granddaughter of June Carter Cash or something. Follow Barton for all her “adorkable” vintage fashion inspiration, plus ideas on how to make it modern.

5. The Retro Rocker — Alyssa Miller

Model, musician + writer
@LuvAlyssaMiller

Between recording with Lukas Nelson and modeling with For Love and Lemons on gorgeous, wide open Texas ranches, it’s no wonder Miller’s feed is a covetable slice of Austin idyll in its own right. But her style so typifies the Southern music scene, following her posts is like tapping directly back into the Austin of the 1970s: it’s the sartorial equivalent of being immersed in an historical backstage documentary. Miller also clearly has both brains and beauty, not to mention she’s a huge animal lover, which makes her account all the more crushable. “I love her general badassery and styling with a rock-n-roll vibe,” says Tiva Rose, jewelry designer at Anvil + Aura.

4. The Risk-Taker — Sara Jane Parsley

Model
@SaraJaneParsley

As a model for local boutiques Beehive, MOSS, and Garment, Parsley basically gets to play dress-up for a living, so it’s no surprise that her feed is a steady mix of styles from vintage to modern to completely eclectic. “She just has ultimate cool girl style, can literally rock anything, and is definitely #stylegoals,” says Juliana Ramirez, social media manager for Beehive.

3. The Body-Positive Babe — Nicole Seligman

Blogger, editor + “sisterhood advocate”
@WritesLikeAGirl

If following style bloggers isn’t your thing, mainly because they make you feel “less than,” Seligman is the friend you’ve been missing in your feed. Her personal style has grown and evolved rapidly over the past few years, in the best possible way, as has her promotion of a world in which we accept our less-than-perfect selves. She leads by positivity and an honest example, using her platforms as a way to pump other women up, not tear them down, regularly sharing universal truths others might only whisper.

2. The Femme Fatale — Dawn Younger-Smith

Vintage stylist + boutique owner
@BoudoirQueen

From almost 100-year-old museum-quality pieces to authentic ’80s music video ensembles, Younger-Smith has completely nailed the empowered, embellished feminine look — and you’d expect nothing less from the muse and wife of former Billy Idol guitarist and local music producer Mark Younger-Smith. Her Etsy shop is a veritable daydream of intricate investment pieces, and her Instagram feed is chock-full of modern, whimsical vintage styling inspiration on the daily.

1. The International Educator — Catelyn Silapachai

Boutique owner, pop-up market organizer, rescue dog champion
@TheDistilleryMarket

Between her global-trotting travels (and swoon-worthy imports), her support and promotion of fellow small businesses everywhere she goes, her grassroots campaigning for rescue dogs around the world, and the curious thirst for knowledge apparent in each and every book review she posts, it’s no wonder why we can’t get enough of Silapachai’s Instagram. Add to that her personal style — a modern mix of edgy classics, artisan-made pieces from abroad, DIY jewelry, and risk-taking vintage — and sweet demeanor, and The Distillery will quickly become your favorite new feed and shop. (Writer’s note: As her co-founder in #1Dog1Hour and regular shopping buddy, I may be completely biased, which is why I saved “the best” IMHO for last!)
