University students have designed an EV car that’s innovative, fully functioning, sleek and super stylish! Students at the Savannah College of Art and Design completed the task of developing the car, called Aether, in record time too. Using 3D technology that incorporates acrylic gel photocured with UV lights the team developed the vehicle in just under a year, making Aether the first car ever built using this technology.
University Students Design Fully Functioning EV Car
Students within SCAD’s award winning industrial design program designed the EV car with Gen Z in mind. Initial research found 75% of the Gen Z age group does not look forward to getting their driver’s license so the students set out on a mission to change this perception.
SCAD students engaged pros in the automotive industry, as well as others in fashion, luxury marketing, and ‘fringe tech’ or technology that extends into science fiction, such as controlling a car with eye tracking and hand gestures. Details include a gaming style console, a removable bluetooth speaker headrest, open top, and an AI companion that curates music based on driving style. The vehicle appeals to the Gen Z demographic while paying homage to influential cars of the past, including the Ferrari 312 F1 and the Porsche 917, capitalizing on the love of sports cars, vintage style, and modern luxury.
We were lucky enough to see the car in person prior to F1 weekend in Austin and we can attest, this EV car is one of the coolest things we’ve ever seen. Congrats to the team and we look forward to seeing more from these innovative young adults as they enter the work force and help inspire and change the world!
