Totally Cool, Totally Art (TCTA) is a city program which offers community-based arts education for Austin teens in grades 7 to 12. Modeled as a free after-school art club, TCTA maintains a strong mentoring component as teens work alongside professional artists.
Have a teenager who would enjoy making art while making friends? This year, the TCTA program is offering guided classes by local artists in the following mediums: Monster Making, Painting, Sculpture, Mixed Media, Culinary Arts and Film.
TCTA will offer free art classes from 6-8 p.m. at various Austin recreation through May 22, 2014. Targeting higher risk areas, this is a great time for kids age 12-18 to get off the street and and get into having fun! Registration is easy, just call the recreation center nearest you (phone numbers listed in the image below).
Or, teens can just drop in and try a class! Walk-ins are welcome and each class has its own individual lesson, so students can stop by whenever it fits their schedule. Interested teens are encouraged to attend any class, even one during the current session which runs through January 16, 2014. Session 3 will begin on January 22, 2014.
For more information, visit the TCTA website or check them out on Facebook, Tumblr, Twitter, or Youtube.
If you’d like the chance to purchase some works of art made by the teenage TCTA students, there will be a showcase on January 18, 2014.
