The 2016 Buda Trail of Lights is open December 9-10 and 15-18 from 6-10 p.m. Admission is free, including the shuttles that transport you from the Cabela’s parking lot to the front of the trail.
Nestled in Historic Stagecoach Park, the Buda Trail of Lights is a quaint hideaway for the holly jolly who like their holiday cheer served cozy- not crazy. On the night we visited last year, there were no lines to be seen, plenty of photo opportunities, and Santa was relaxed and chatty with each of the children sent his way.
The Buda Trail of Lights is all about convenience and accessibility. Parking is free at Cabela’s, where a shuttle stops regularly each night from 6-9:30 p.m. to whisk you and yours off to the front of the trail. Once there, you’re invited into a winter wonderland of lights where you can roam about freely taking in the sights and sounds of the holidays.
Along the path, you will find tasty concessions available for purchase, such as hot chocolate and kettle corn.
For the little ones, keep an eye out for Santa near the middle of the trail. He’s available each night and eager to hear everyone’s holiday wishlist. There is no charge and generally short lines, just be sure to bring your camera to capture the moment. If your child is on the shy side, there is also a craft station to write letters to Santa nearby.
There really is something for everyone at the Buda Trail of Lights. Whether you’re looking for more traditional spiritual displays or edgier themes that speak to what’s been trendy this past year, there is bound be something you’ll love. Last year, my boys especially enjoyed the hot rod displays provided by Buda Gear Heads.
My daughter loved all the photo opportunities along the trail, such as the “Hope” Relay for Life photograph frame and the deliciously decorated Gingerbread House.
What I loved most was the laid-back small town friendliness of it all. This trail is perfect for those who might find the Austin Trail of Lights a bit intimidating or are concerned about small children and the elderly keeping up. There are also plenty of places to have a seat and relax a bit before continuing on along the trail.
