The Barback Games Are Coming to Austin! Do You Have What It Takes?

Austin has seen its fair share of bartender competitions, but this month the humble barback has their opportunity to shine at the 10th Annual Barback Games. The annual event is hosted by Fernet-Branca, and this is the first year that the games are coming to Austin.

Whisler’s, the East 6th bar known for its craft cocktails, will be the site for “a series of gladiator-style bar challenges” on Sunday, June 12. Competitors include ridiculously costumed barbacks from throughout Texas who are fighting for a spot to represent Texas in the Barback Finals in San Francisco at the end of the year. Examples of some of the challenges that they may be facing include an obstacle course of tires that competitors must navigate while carrying a keg of beer, a box-breakdown contest, and a lime-juicing match.

If this sounds like an event that’s too hilarious to miss, it’s totally free and open to the public. Doors open at 2 p.m. and the event runs until night with a pig and goat roast, specialty Fernet-Branca drinks, and music from DJ Chicken George. Just be sure to RSVP.

For those looking to represent their Texas city, competitor registration is still open, just email Megan from Infinium Spirits.
