If you are looking for something to do in Austin this summer, then Austin Sound and Cinema may just be the perfect event for you. Put on by Do512, Alamo Drafthouse, and The Long Center, this summer time fusion of music and movies is a popular event in Austin, and if you don’t know about it, you should. The 2016 summer season kicks off on July 6 at The Long Center with a set from popular Austin psychedelic group The Echocentrics followed by the adventure film Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom, released in 1984.
Continuing throughout early August, Austin Sound and Cinema will be showing movies such as Footloose (the original movie filmed in 1984,) as well as showing a quote-along of the 1986 musical-fantasy film Labyrinth, shortly after a performance from local band Sweet Spirit.
While Sound and Cinema has become a popular event over the years, it is important to remember to get there early to not only experience both the music and the movie, but to also find a seat on the crowded lawn of The Long Center. The event is free.
