Austin Firefighters Association: 9/11 Memorial Ceremony
When: Friday, September 11, 2015 from 7:30-8:30 a.m.
Where: Buford Tower, Cesar Chavez and Colorado
Public is welcome to attend. Austin Firefighters Association will hold their annual memorial to remember all who fell on September 11, 2001. This ceremony also incorporates a remembrance of Austin Firefighters, active and retired, who have passed away in the last year. The event will take place at Buford Tower. The ceremony will include the Austin Firefighter Honor Guard, Emergency Services Pipes and Drums Association and AFD Quint 1.
Austin Fire Department: 9/11 Memorial Climb
When: Friday, September 11, 2015 at 9:30 a.m.
Where: AFD Pleasant Valley Training Tower (517 S. Pleasant Valley Dr)
Public is welcome to observe. Austin Firefighters will to pay tribute to the 343 New York firefighters who lost their lives on 9-11 by climbing up and down the fire tower stairs until it equals the number of floors of the World Trade Center. Their goal each year is to complete the climb for the 343 NY firefighters who perished. This year marks the 14th stair climb. Each participating firefighter will carry dog tags imprinted with the names of those firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice.
