Scott Mentzer Pool

This photo of Scott Mentzer Pool in Pflugerville is a trick. It’s a post rainstorm shot, taken just after the pool reopened (and most of the guests had given up waiting and left for home).  So, yay for us, we had the pool to ourselves!  But… it’s not usually like that at this popular community pool.

Your best bet for visiting Scott Mentzer, if you want to avoid the crowds, is to arrive right when the pool opens at 11 a.m. (daily, except Wednesday) and to go during the week.  On weekends, the pool is packed. Unless, of course, there is a storm approaching. We learned yesterday, that when there is thunder, guests must wait outside the pool gates for half an hour. Each time there is thunder, the half hour starts again. But hey, yesterday’s pool evacuation gave me the perfect opportunity to get a few empty pool shots!

So, what’s so great about this Pflugerville pool? For young ones, there is a tiny splash pad, a beach entrance, and a small slide. Older kids enjoy the little lazy river (with current), and two slides. Children must be 48″ to ride the slides alone. Smaller children may ride the wide slide with an adult. Floaties are not allowed, but the pool offers complimentary life jackets.
