Austin Fencers 2.The Round Rock Convention and Visitors Bureau announced that the Austin Fencers Club will host Central Texas’ largest regional fencing competition, the 2015 Austin Challenge and Poujardieu Memorial in Round Rock. The event will be held at the Round Rock Sports Center November 21-22, 2015. It is free and open to the public.

More than 300 fencers will compete in 28 events. The sport of fencing, which is often described as a game of “physical chess” because it requires both athleticism and complex strategy and tactics, features three weapons: epee, foil and saber. Formats and techniques vary for each weapon. Individual competitions in all three weapons occur throughout the weekend.

The Austin Challenge serves as a qualification path for USA Fencing’s National Championships, the largest fencing tournament in the world, which will take place in Dallas in June and July. Fencers from all over Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana, will converge at the Austin Challenge to duel for the gold and for the chance to win their berth in the National Championships.
