Oscar-winning actor and renowned Austinite Matthew McConaughey has a new commercial out that’s like a dramatic love letter to the city we call home. Amazingly enough, while waxing poetic about returning to one’s roots and “going back” home, he also manages to sell you a car at the same time.
The ad, seen below, was put together by the Lincoln Motor Company to promote their new luxury utility vehicle, the 2015 Lincoln MKC. So, naturally, McConaughey is seen in the ad cruising through Austin at night, all “True Detective” style, dropping prose that leads to a Very warm and happy conclusion and pretty shot of Austin’s skyline.
The City of Austin has temporarily banned public gatherings. Please stay home. The Austin.com calendar is only for live digital events at this time.
This is the second major commercial recently to prominently feature Austin. Chase Bank cut an ad not long ago featuring famous Japanese chef Nobu Matsushisa using his Chase Sapphire Rewards card to drop in on Aaron Franklin, founder of Austin’s famous Franklin BBQ.
That’s a trend cool enough to make us drop McConaughey’s famous “Dazed and Confused” line: “Alright, alright, alright!”
