Look Up! Liberty Hill is Hosting a Hot Air Balloon and Sculpture Festival This Weekend!

Central Texas has plenty of amazing festivals to look forward to each year, but a new one in Liberty Hill, just a short drive from Austin, is trying to soar higher than others before — quite literally. This year, the Liberty Hill Development Foundation, the City of Liberty Hill, The Liberty Hill Independent newspaper, P&R Propane, and a variety of local businesses are bringing the Liberty Hill International Sculpture & Hot Air Balloon Festival to Central Texas. The fun kicks off at 7 a.m. on Saturday, October 19 at the Lions Foundation Park with a raffle to win a free hot air balloon ride, then the balloons start launching at 7:45 a.m., just as the 5K Fun Run kicks off.

In addition to the joy of watching this incredible sight, there will also be plenty of other fun throughout the day…and the night. During the day guests are treated to vendors, live music, and food trucks, as well as live exhibitions by Texas Powered Paragliding, Soulshine Rhythm Experience, and the EOL Kite Team until 1 p.m. Admission and parking (at Liberty Hill Intermediate School) for the morning festival are FREE! But don’t forget to bring your wallets to buy food, art items, and tethered balloon rides ($25).

For even more fun, the Liberty Hill International Sculpture Park will be open for self-guided tours from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The first 100 people to take a tour will receive a free ticket to the Hot Air Balloon Glow & Street Dance that evening. Giving the community the opportunity to learn about, appreciate, and continue to support this special place, filled with sculptures originally created in 1976 by 25 artists from six countries, is the whole purpose behind the festival.

After dark, the fun starts again at the Hot Air Balloon Glow & Street Dance. Ticketed guests can return to the park at 7 p.m. for a Hot Air Balloon Glow, a street dance with headliner People’s Choice Band, and a Silent Disco with three DJs. Tethered balloon rides will be offered again for $25. Admission for the evening events is $15 for ages 12 and over and $5 for ages 4 through 11. Free parking and shuttles are available at Bill Burden Elementary, Liberty Hill Elementary, and Liberty Hill Junior High.

For more information or to purchase raffle tickets, register for the 5k, or purchase street dance tickets, visit the Liberty Hill Sculpture Festival page.

**The Hot Air Balloon Launch, Hot Air Balloon Glow, and Tethered Balloon Rides are all subject to Mother Nature.
