Little Buckaroo Ranch in Dripping Springs

Tucked away in Dripping Springs, is a sweet little ranch that caters to small group outings, riding lessons, and birthday parties. It is perfect for ages 1 to 6. Over spring break, one of our friends coordinated a “field trip” to Little Buckaroo Ranch. We packed up our lunches, threw on some jeans and boots, and headed out. I do recommend using your GPS to find the Ranch, it is on Hamilton Pool Road, but the sign is difficult to see. I passed it twice.

Our group gathered at the entrance to the ranch and were met by the owners, Cowgirl Miriam and Cowboy Bill. They discussed the rules of the Ranch and we all joined in for an old fashion sing along. After the song, we followed them up a hill to check out the bunnies. The kiddos were given the chance to pet the bunnies and feed them. Then we made our way to the miniature horse enclosure. The kiddos worked together to “water” the horses. Next stop, the chickens and the friendly rooster. The owners have very strict rules for safety; you are not allowed to wander away from the group.

My daughter’s favorite part was grooming the horses. Each child was given an opportunity to brush the horse and see how much hair and dust they could pull out with the comb. After a quick squirt of hand sanitizer, our group headed under the trees for juice and goldfish. The last stop on the tour, a horse show. We watched one of the horses perform a few “tricks”.

Once the tour was over, we followed the group back to the entrance to sit and enjoy our packed lunches. The picnic tables are under a beautiful shade tree. There is a tire swing and room to roam while Cowboy Bill gets the fire ready. Once the fire is ready, everyone gets a chance to roast a marshmallow, or two.

Know before you go:

  • You must call and schedule a time to come out to the ranch. The cost per group is $75. We had 15 children in our group, making it a very reasonable $5 per child.
  • Pack a lunch.
  • Wear close toed shoes. Little Buckaroo Ranch is pesticide free, so there are some creepy crawlies.
  • If it looks like the weather may be bad on your scheduled day, call first to make sure your tour has not been canceled.
