Lemonade Day Austin is back!! The special day, designed to give kids a taste of life as a young entrepreneur, will take place on Saturday, May 11, 2019, and there are so many ways for kids and the community to participate.
This experiential learning program is a free, fun way for kids to go through the steps of starting, owning, and operating their own business. That business happens to be the most classic of youth businesses, the lemonade stand! Every child who registers through the Lemonade Day Austin website receives access to a ton of resources and lessons that include creating a budget, serving customers, setting goals, repaying investors, and giving back to the community. The program can also be tailored to youth groups and organizations to work on a larger scale through their partnership programs.
The best part is, after all of their hard work, the kids get to keep all of the money that they make. They are also encouraged by the program to make wise decisions with their money by spending some, saving some, and sharing some (with local charities).
During Lemonade Day Austin in 2018 more than 1400 kids participated for a total of 105 lemonade stands around Austin. Even more young entrepreneurs are anticipated to participate this year! The event has continued to grow since it started in 2009 and even includes the huge success story of Mikaila Ulmer of Me & the Bees Lemonade.
Want to participate in Lemonade Day Austin, but you’re not quite the right age? You can donate and sponsor a stand, a youth group, or a classroom. You can volunteer in a variety of capacities from mentor to online advocate. Or you can simply buy a cup (or 10) of lemonade on the big day (May 11) and really support what these kids are doing.
So mark your calendars, get registered to participate (if you’re a kid), or just get your cups and your dollars ready for the big day!!
