As the future of one of Austin’s most beloved outdoor spaces slowly begins to change, HOPE Outdoor Gallery is looking to its community to help preserve its past. Eventually, the famous “graffiti park” will have to find a new home, so making sure that the memories that we have of its current Castle Hill location live on in more than just Instagram feeds becomes even more important.
Recently, the HOPE (Helping Other People Everywhere) Campaign went live with a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign to create “These Walls Can Talk” – HOPE Vol. II, their second book of art book. This book will be full of photographs of murals, street art, and moments from the art park, combined with 50 community-sourced stories that capture the evolution of the HOPE Outdoor Gallery.
From the Kickstarter campaign:
With over 500 artists, families, and creatives visiting daily, there are thousands of stories and murals layered within its walls – and we’re bringing them to you in These Walls Can Talk!
Their goal is to earn $21,000 by November 20 (books are not cheap to produce these days), and it’s an all or nothing type deal. The project must be fully funded for the funds to be released, so it’s even more important that it gets the funding it needs. Those who support the book will also be helping to fund the future of the gallery, as sales from the book will help to support the costs associated with the gallery’s move.
So what about those all important Kickstarter rewards? Here are few of the options for perks, with more on the page:
$10 – Add your name in the book
$35 – Add your name in the book + your own copy of the book
$50 – All of the above, plus admission to the Hops for HOPE Annual Art Show
There are also some bigger supporter packages that gets you multiple copies of the book, special name placement, admissions to the Hops for HOPE event, and admission to the special launch party during SXSW 2017.
Another great way to support the HOPE Outdoor Gallery (as well as HOPE’s other projects) not only involves art, but also lots and lots of beer. The 10th Annual HOPE Art Show, Hops for HOPE, is November 20th from 4-10 p.m. at Fair Market. There, guests will enjoy plenty of local art while sipping on craft and local beers, some created special for the event. There will be plenty of beautiful pieces available for purchase and available as part of the raffle. For a full list of beers and artists, as well as to grab tickets, visit the Hops for Hope event page.
The Kickstarter will end with a private preview night to the Hops for HOPE Annual Art Show on Saturday, Nov. 19th at Fair Market, which includes a Chef + Artist pairing featuring over a dozen Austin restaurants including Eden East, Suerte, Eberly, Bullfight, L’Oca d’Oro, Winflo, Weather Up, Eddie V’s and more. A unique beer will accompany the night from Hops and Grain Brewery.
And if you’re wondering how you can score a copy of Volume I of the HOPE Art Book, it’s available for sale at Book People and Hotel San Jose.
