It’s the spookiest time of the year! Austin-area residents and visitors are invited to throw on their costumes a week early and join an afternoon of family fun and thrills when The Domain hosts its first Halloween Party on the Plaza!
On Saturday, October 25, 2014, from 3 – 5 p.m., head to The Domain II for frightfully fun activities, from Halloween crafts and a cake walk to live music by Superband and a balloon twister. Kids can trick or treat, get their face painted, or stop by the pumpkin patch for what’s sure to be haunting good time. And best of all? Halloween Party on the Plaza is free!
Saturday would also be a great time to check out the Domain’s new play areas! Domain II now boasts three interactive play areas which feature replicas of a longhorn, an armadillo, frogs, turtles and butterflies. Upon entering each play area, a child can read the storyboard that outlines a fractured fable and then become part of the story, complete with sound effects.
These new play elements are free, outdoor activity centers that offer climbers, slides, individualized storyboards, hand sanitizer stations, a stroller area and adult seating.

Each area was designed with different age groups in mind, allowing toddlers and young children to safely engage in fun. The turtle-themed space is intended for children 5 and under, the armadillo area is a fit for those 3 to 5 years old and the longhorn section has a more advanced design for children 4 to 12 year olds.
The overall enhancement project of The Domain II began in March. In August, the north and south plazas were transformed into pedestrian streetscapes with new lighting and trees. The project also includes the creation of a “great lawn” which will be covered by a cable shade structure spanning from Domain Drive to iPic Theaters, encompassing approximately 10,000 square feet. The shade is slated for completion by the end of this year. The Domain’s “great lawn” will be a destination for live music, community festivals, markets and holiday activities.
Halloween Party on the Plaza will kick off a season of fun, family-friendly events to be hosted in The Domain II. Other upcoming events will include Lighting of the Great Tree festivities from noon – 9 p.m. on November 22, 2014, Breakfast with Santa from 9 a.m. – noon on December 6, 2014, as well as photos with Santa, horse-drawn carriage rides and holiday light shows.
