Moontower Comedy Announces Festival Performers
Moontower Comedy Festival announced their first round of comedians for the 2019 fest. Headliners are Jenny Slate, David Spade, and Sal Vulcano. Other performers include Brad Williams, Chris Redd, Dan Soder, Marina Franklin, Mary Lynn Rajskub, Nicole Byer, The Sklar Brothers, with more announcements to come. The Moontower Comedy Fest takes place April 24 through 27 in Austin.
And speaking of comedy, the Sklar Brothers are performing at Cap City Comedy Club this weekend.
Aziz Ansari
That’s not all the comedy that happened in Austin this week… Aziz Ansari performed at the Bass Concert Hall on Wednesday. Tonight, he performs in Dallas, where his guest list appears to include the cast of “Friday Night Lights.” Oh, Aziz. It’s Friday night. I think you know where Eric Taylor, Buddy Garrity and Tim Riggins will really be.
Aziz will be back in Austin by Monday for a sold out performance at The Parish.
Matthew McConaughey Turns 49
Everyone’s favorite Austinite Matthew McConaughey turned 49 on November 4. He and wife Camila Alves spent the week celebrating in London, where they attended the launch of new bar The Parrot at The Waldorf Hilton. Idris Elba and Benedict Cumberbatch were also in attendance.
By the way, did you hear the news that McConaughey auditioned for the role of Jack in Titanic?
So he wasn’t king of the world. That’s OK! He’s still doing alright alright alright.
The Iron Orchard Wins Austin Film Fest Award
The Austin Film Fest announced the winners of the Hiscox Audience Awards, recognizing festival goers’ favorite films among the 2018 slate. The winner of the Texas Independent Feature is the Texas shot The Iron Orchard.
Austinites Lane Garrison and Austin Nichols attended the Austin screening, as did several other members of the cast and crew. Read more about the event and the film here.
Reese Witherspoon in Austin for the Texas Conference For Women
The sold out Texas Conference for Women is happening today in Austin. The annual event always brings in an exciting panel of leaders, thinkers, and innovators and this year is no exception. Reese Witherspoon takes part in the keynote luncheon, as do First Lady Cecilia Abbott, Carla Piñeyro Sublett, Debbie McClure, Dr. Brené Brown, and Lisa Heritage McLin.
