All Summer Long: Free Fun at the Long Center

Long CenterLooking for fun to last you All Summer Long? You’re in luck!  The Long Center has free events galore on its summer schedule!

Austin Symphony Hartman Foundation Concerts in the Park – Sundays through August 23 (excluding July 5) at 7:30 p.m. In its 13th summer season, these free ensemble concerts take place in the Hartman Concert Park in front of the Long Center City Terrace. Each Sunday a different ensemble of the Austin Symphony will be featured, performing music from jazz and light classical to pops selections and film scores. Concertgoers are encouraged to bring a picnic dinner and blanket and make it a group outing.

Austin Sound and Cinema – June 17, July 1, July 15, July 29, and August 12 at 6 p.m. Do512 and Alamo Drafthouse are proud to present great live bands paired with classic Hollywood movies. This series will take place on alternating Wednesdays all summer long on the Long Center lawn, with the perfect view of the downtown Austin skyline behind the stage and giant inflatable Alamo Drafthouse screen. Free and open to the public. This year’s lineup includes Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and Ghostbusters. 

Big Mega Workout – June 20, August 1, and September 5 at 9 a.m. Attention all boot campers! Leave your mats and weights at home, and join Austinites from all over town from 9-10 a.m. for a fierce workout utilizing the grounds and architecture of the Long Center. FREE!

Trailer Food Tuesdays – July 7 and August 4 at 5 p.m. Trailer Food Tuesdays is back! The Long Center and Trailer Food Tuesdays have formed an exciting new partnership in response to the tremendous support and demand from the people of Austin. The result? More food, more music and more FUN! A retooled, amped up series of events featuring all of the amazing trailer food you’ve come to expect in a brand new festival-style atmosphere. Sample the delicious food trucks of Austin in one convenient location. The downtown skyline is the backdrop as 14-16 of Austin’s finest food trailers roll on to the City Terrace. Add family-friendly live music and you’ve got a hit!

Rhythm on Stage – July 14, 21, and 28 at 7 p.m. Rhythm on Stage, in partnership with Ballet Austin’s Butler Community School, is back for its 4th year. Join Austin’s only instructional dance series that invites you to take center stage in the Long Center’s Dell Hall. Free!

July 28th: West African Dance and Drums with Jean Claude

Long Center Open House – August 23. The Long Center will host an Open House, featuring special vignettes from Founding Resident Companies (Austin Lyric Opera, Austin Symphony Orchestra and Ballet Austin) and Resident Companies (Austin Shakespeare, Conspirare, Pollyanna Theatre Company and Tapestry Dance Company). This free event will showcase the cutting edge design and functionality of the Long Center, as well as the iconic performance groups who call it home! Drinks and snacks will be available for purchase throughout the entire space.
