On October 6-7, 2017, Central Texans can watch art come to life at The Round Rock Chalk Walk Festival. The Chalk Walk Festival is Round Rock’s largest arts festival and it’s FREE to attend!
Thousands will visit downtown Round Rock to enjoy chalk artists creating artwork on the streets, plus musicians, vocal groups, theatrical performances, food and drinks, and children’s performances by local organizations and schools. Art is the theme and chalk is the medium. From start to finish, participating artists will create art in full view of the public, who are encouraged to interact with the artists as they use their amazing talents to create beautiful murals.
Art and Performances
Friday night will highlight local high schools with The Art Institute of Austin’s “High School Food Truck Battle.” Taste all the dishes prepared by local high schools and vote for your favorite! Proceeds from the battle are donated back to the participating high schools. You eat, they win!
Also on Friday night, Uncle Lucius is the headliner act performing live from 8-10:00 p.m. PopMatters wrote of Uncle Lucius, “If anything they take their cue from bands like the Allman Brothers, whose blend of funk and astute instrumentation was key to a savvy sound. Indeed, they harbor a distinct southern rock feel, as becomes a thoroughly road-tested ensemble with just the right amount of sway and swagger.”
Saturday will feature all day performances from local artists, theater groups, musicians, and dance ensembles. At 6:30 p.m. Saturday evening, awards will be given to the chalk artists in categories including Best of Show, Best Representation of Round Rock, Best Animal, Best Copy of a Famous Masterpiece, Best New Comer (first-time artist), and Most Creative.
