Working from home can be tough. Especially if you have a roommate, partner, child, or even a dog! The pandemic has forced more and more people to spend the day at home and that brings a whole slew of challenges. So we asked our wellness expert Gustavo Padron to share some tips on how to stay productive when working from home.
3 Tips to Help You Be More Productive While Working From Home
- Find a comfortable and dedicated space to get your work done. Though not all of us have the luxury of a dedicated home office, you can still create a clear boundary by setting up your desk/ office area in a specific space. I recommend finding a corner in a room that has natural lighting to keep you inspired and motivated.
- Avoid multitasking. While some of us think that we are more productive by doing 10 things at the same time, the opposite is true. Our brain can only focus on one task at a time. When we multitask, we are constantly shifting our focus from one task to the other. This often leads to you feeling stressed out, overwhelmed, and anxious. I try to fully focus on one task at a time, blocking off an hour or so to finish that one task. Once it is complete, I move on to the next thing. You may even want to create a check list to help with the anxiety of all your tasks. Plus, checking things off a list can be so rewarding.
- Schedule breaks throughout the day. Taking a mental break is crucial and will help you see things with fresh eyes. Try standing up for one to three minutes every hour and doing some light stretches. I also recommend going for a five to 10 minute walk without your phone mid day. Easier said than done, but if you can make this happen, it will make a world of difference for your mental state.
