Burnet Road is booming! And while it’s hard to imagine the quiet Crestview neighborhood as a hip destination, new hangouts like The Local Post are ready to welcome you with a cold drink, yummy food, and plenty of free parking.
The latest bar/restaurant from Union Venture Group (the folks behind The Park and Maverick’s) opened last month in the space once occupied by Dallas Nightclub. Wood ceilings, exposed brick, and amber lighting make the three huge rooms and patio feel warm and inviting. Three full bars and plenty of seats guarantee patrons won’t have to wait to indulge.
The kitchen specializes in “Texas Comfort Food,” which includes the obligatory burgers and queso, with a few twists. 10 lb Can Nachos are enormous towers of chips and toppings, served from the type of giant cans common in the food service industry. Sharing is definitely recommended! And if you’re in the mood for a chimichanga the size of your face, there are four varieties of the deep-fried guilty pleasure.

Along with standbys like margaritas and Lone Star, the bar emphasizes local libations. One of their signature cocktails is The Local Lady, a refreshing blend of muddled cucumbers, basil, and Deep Eddy Lemon vodka. Beer fans will appreciate the selection of taps from Live Oak, Real Ale, 512, and Austin Beerworks. Happy Hour is from 3-7 p.m., and has a rotating list of specials.
In addition to food and drink, The Local Post features televised sporting events, arcade games, and–get this–Texas Hold’em! Poker fanatics can play most nights of the week for a chance to win cash and prizes via the friendly dealers from Turn River Gaming.

And finally, the Post features family friendly hours. From 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., all ages are welcome. Watch the game with a cold brew while the kids play skee ball and fight over the last of the nachos. But don’t worry, if family style isn’t your thing, after 7 p.m. it’s strictly 21 and up.
It’s hard to beat a neighborhood joint. If the thought of battling Austin’s notorious traffic gives you a migraine, make your way to The Local Post. It’s got something for everyone (and did we mention the ocean of free parking)?
