Dr. Seuss’s The Cat In The Hat brings mischief and laughter to audiences young and grown. Now through April 23, your favorite cat will wreak havoc and bring delight in Dr. Seuss’s The Cat in the Hat at The Kleberg at ZACH!
You may THINK you know the story, but this new take on the Dr. Seuss favorite comes to us from the National Theatre of Great Britain. In case you don’t remember the premise, here you go: Sally and her brother are stuck home in the rain when a Cat comes knocking at the windowpane! But the Cat has brought friends, Thing One and Thing Two, who make messes and problems and oh, what to do?! Mischief and mayhem and laughter galore, bring the kids – they’ll clamor for more!
Austin.com Review: Dr. Seuss’s The Cat In The Hat
I brought my two kids (8 and 10) and our young neighbor (4) to the ZACH Theatre for Dr. Seuss’s The Cat In The Hat. We entered the intimate theatre and immediately were drawn in by a set that popped in vivid detail straight from the beloved tale. While the kids were filling out the clever Seuss detailed activity book/program (bring a few crayons!), the young audience filtered in and the excitement in the air was palpable. As soon as the play started, you could hear children laughing in delight and reciting parts of the book aloud. The familiar characters brought joy to the families watching, and the use of playful props added a circus like atmosphere to the stage. Thing One and Thing Two combined acrobatics, running in and out of the audience, minion like dialogue, and pure exuberance to their characters. I laughed right along with my kids the entire performance.
Timed at 45 minutes, The Cat In The Hat was the perfect length. I was concerned my 10-year-old might not like it as much as the younger audience members, but he asked if we could go back again as soon as it was over. When you head to the show with your family and friends, make sure you get in the fast moving line afterwards to meet the cast and take photos. Dr. Seuss’s The Cat In The Hat at the ZACH truly was all that!
