The City of Austin really wants to help support its local businesses this holiday season as shoppers pull out their wallets to do lots and lots of shopping. So much so that they’re continuing a popular initiative: Spend Smart, Spend Local. To support this campaign of giving local gifts and keeping dollars circulating within the Austin community, the city has set up the website LocallyAustin.org. This handy tool will especially come in handy with the upcoming Small Business Saturday shopping day on November 26.
At LocallyAustin.org, managed by the Small Business Program, a division of the City of Austin’s Economic Development Department, shoppers can browse for unique gifts and services at local stores. In addition, there’s a companion app that includes a directory of locally-owned, small business. The website also features a Shop Zero Waste category in partnership with Austin Resource Recovery to promote local businesses that sell recycled, upcycled, or reused items.
Locally Austin encourages locally-owned small businesses to register online to increase their online presence.
