This summer marks the grand opening of The Austin Artery — and the Artery is celebrating by giving away one FREE admission to a half-day camp for children in July!
The Artery is dedicated to enhancing the lives of all people through art. Thus, creativity is the top priority at the Artery, which offers half-day camps throughout the summer for kids ages 5 to 13. (Note that there are classes available for adults, too — check out the offerings and schedule here.)
There are so many fascinating kids’ camps to choose from, with topics that incorporate art, science, current events, environmental concerns, scientific research, and timeless concepts that all kids love (come on, what kid doesn’t love tree houses?!). Here are just a few of the camps available in July:
- Arts-Based Approach to Literacy — In this camp, 5- to 8-year-olds will learn to paint pictures with words through art workshops and the study of picture books.
- Life Amongst the Trees — Kids ages 8 to 12 will explore tree houses and other unconventional living spaces, and will build models of their own tree dwellings.
- Green Roof Futures — Kids ages 9 to 13 will explore perspective drawing, using their skills to develop ideas for future urban living, with a focus on on utilizing roof spaces for new purposes.
Check the schedule to find out about all the camps offered this summer (there are both half-day and full-day options available through August).

Catherine A. Morris is a writer as well as a once-and-future teacher, musician, jogger and triathlete living in southwest Austin, Texas. Yes, most of her former passions and pastimes have given way, at least for now, to her current, main passion and pastime: caring for her two kids, toddler Pearl and baby Zephyr. Pearl and Zeph make Catherine and her husband laugh (and cry) on a daily basis, and give Catherine plenty of good reasons to seek out free, fun activities to keep everyone alive, engaged and happy from one moment to the next.
