This summer, the Zilker Theater Productions team looks forward to welcoming over 45,000+ Hillside audience members to follow the yellow brick road “over the rainbow” for the 59th Annual Zilker Summer Musical. For more than a century, The Wizard of Oz has enchanted readers, theater, and movie goers alike. Now, Zilker Theater Productions will bring this cultural treasure to the historic, outdoor theater at The Zilker Hillside.
The Wizard of Oz opens July 7 and runs through August 12. 2017, on Thursday – Sunday evenings. The “curtain” goes up right around dusk at 8:15 p.m., but arrive early with your low-backed chairs and blankets to get your spot.
ZTP’s The Wizard of Oz is FREE to the public during its six-week run. Zilker Theatre Productions is a 501(c)(3) organization and can only provide this annual entertainment through contributions. So, during intermission, you will be asked to donate what you can to support the show.
The entrance to The Zilker Hillside Theater is on the northbound MoPac service road just before you reach Barton Springs Road. The Hillside Theater is across from Barton Springs Pool. The City of Austin offers FREE parking in the Polo Field (above the Hillside Theater) in Zilker Park on Saturday and Sunday evenings starting at 6:00 p.m. Thursday and Friday nights feature free parking all day long!
What can I bring?
Pack a blanket, low-backed chairs, and a picnic basket and/or cooler. A variety of drinks and snacks can be purchased from the theater’s concession stand, with proceeds benefiting the production. Don’t forget your bug spray. And, if you have any hand-held fans, you might wish to bring those, too, to help you stay cool in the warm summer temperatures.
