Representation in the art museum is two-fold: both the artists included in the museum’s collections and exhibitions and the narratives displayed in its galleries. In her March 5th talk, Lana Meador will share insights into recent exhibitions and acquisitions at the San Antonio Museum of Art that have focused on women artists and the representation of women throughout art history.

About Lana Meador:
Lana Meador joined the San Antonio Museum of Art’s curatorial department in 2015 and currently serves as the Associate Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art. She has worked on over a dozen exhibitions at SAMA including co-curating Of Country and Culture: The Lam Collection of Contemporary Australian Aboriginal Art (2017) and Texas Women: A New History of Abstract Art (2020). She organized the 2018 retrospective Marilyn Lanfear: Material Memory and in 2023 she curated Gateway: Carlos Rosales-Silva, Pase Usted, a site-specific mural that launched SAMA’s Gateway project series. Lana received her BA in English from The University of Texas at Austin and MA in Art History from Texas Christian University. Meador juried the Spring 2024 exhibition Material Evolution: Selected Works from the Texas Sculpture Group, on display in TAG Gallery 2000 (HLC 2.2450) from January 16 – March 7, 2024.
