This beloved romantic comedy starring Cher and a young Nicolas Cage is a favorite of many movie lovers across multiple generations for its timeless but unique, and some would say, magical feel. Both Roger Ebert and Gene Siskel, two of the most famous American film critics, have cited it as a top quality film, and for Ebert, an all time favorite.
The American Film Institute polled 1500 individuals involved in the motion picture industry about the top ten films in ten classic Hollywood genres, and Moonstruck was voted #8 in its list for best romantic comedies of all time. Both Cher and Olympia Dukakis, the actress playing Cher’s mother, won Academy Awards, which is significant because comedies are rarely favored by The Academy.
