It’s time again for our popular San Saba hike.
We’ll hike about 4 miles through three parks (San Saba River Nature Park, Risien Park and Mill Pond Park). This used to be an Indian campground and there are some interesting archaeological sites there. This will be a “stop and look” hike. Hiking is level, shady and easy.
After hiking in the parks, we’ll do a short hike into town and visit the Wedding Oak Winery in downtown San Saba. We’ll then go to one of the local restaurants for lunch. http://www.weddingoakwinery.com.
It takes about 1.5 hours to get to San Saba and we’ll spend about 4 hours there.
If everything went according to plan, it wouldn’t be an adventure. Only about a mile of this hike is shady. Bring sunblock, a hat and water.
Dogs are okay if on a six foot leash. Dogs okay at the winery, but if we go to one of the restaurants, they may have to be tied up outside to the porch posts.
Carpooling is encouraged, but not arranged by the Sierra Club. A good carpooler meeting place is at REI on Capital of Texas hwy in north Austin.
Carpoolers should leave by 9 AM.
Participants must sign a Liability Waiver at the trailhead. You may view the waiver document: [https://tinyurl.com/SCSignUpSheet2020](https://tinyurl.com/SCSignUpSheet2020) .
