Link and Pin Art Space is proud to present Past Things/Carly Weaver, a solo exhibition presenting a new body of work in mixed media, graphite and plaster. Although she is best known as “The Grackle Lady” with her prominent paintings of grackles, this show highlights work that is more personal and expressive.
Past Things features a collection of 60 x 60-inch panels with intricate drawings and vulnerable diary entries accompanied by a new series of delicate plaster cast sculptures. This show creates a partial visual timeline of the artist’s life through memory, nostalgia and loss, hoping to invite the viewer into a collective history of 80’s childhood, tape collections and more. The opening reception will celebrate the culmination of over 600 hours of drawing.
Weaver is a multidisciplinary artist based in Austin, Texas. She landed in east Austin in 2005 from Boston with a BFA from James Madison University in Virginia. Her work is inspired by the culture and natural landscape of her home city. Weaver has three ongoing series: grackles, landscapes and bicycles. Weaver paints on wood panels that she builds herself: large scale paintings that incorporate sculptural elements and texture, sometimes narrative and other times abstract. In tandem, she continues to make plaster cast sculptures with various themes on memory and collecting.
