A unique perspective of the world’s largest peaceful gathering of over 100 million pilgrims
AUSTIN, TEXAS—One hundred million people made the journey, the largest human gathering ever recorded, each on his own pilgrimage to connect with something greater than himself. All congregated at the sacred confluence of the three holiest rivers in India, the Ganges, the Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati. This is India’s Kumbh Mela- the world’s largest spiritual gathering- and in 2013, Austin based National Geographic Creative Photographer Greg Davis walked side by side with the pilgrims to capture the myth and legend of the grand tradition. The collection, which has been exhibited in 8 Texas museums, includes twenty-four limited edition fine art photographs, accompanied by the short film, Cloth Paper Dreams, dance by Austin Dance India and Indian music by Indrajit Banerjee on sitar and Gourisankar Karmakar on tabla. Indian inspired bites available.
