Austin Music Community Helping Musician George Reiff During His Cancer Fight

Legendary Austin musician George Reiff was recently been diagnosed with stage four cancer that has spread to his brain, adrenal gland, liver, and right lung. Well-known musicians such as Ringo Starr, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Charlie Sexton, and others have all worked with Reiff throughout his career, making him the go-to bassist when you need music recorded.

Reiff picked up a bass at the age of 12 after watching Paul McCartney perform. After moving to Texas at the age of 16, he began his career as a touring musician. He’s been at it almost full time ever since, which explains why he’s so beloved and so well known.

Once his cancer diagnosis became known, the Austin music community set up a GoFundMe to help with Reiff’s mounting medical expenses. So far more than $1,000,000 has been raised.

Medical updates are being provided by Reiff’s brother Michael. In the spirit of support and George’s love for music, a benefit concert will be held on Friday, August 5th at Strange Brew in South Austin. Many acts who are performing tonight have a connection to Reiff, including Miles Zuniga of Fastball, Nakia, The Mastersons, and Dustin Welch. The concert will start at 8pm and run for four hours. It is $20.00 to attend.
