As Central Texas grows, the need for places to keep cool in the summer also increases exponentially. There are only so many days that we can Netflix and A/C without going stir crazy, but more people in the area means more competition for treasured swimming holes and longer lines at Schlitterbahn. Another water park in Central Texas could be just what we need to get by as the summer months get more and more brutal, and Kalahari Resorts & Conventions intends to bring us that relief.
According to a press release, Kalahari plans to open its fourth destination, an expansion into the southwest region, in Round Rock. The new location will “mirror the company’s existing resorts, will be authentically African-themed and will include up to 1,000 guest rooms, indoor and outdoor waterparks, restaurants, a family entertainment center, spa and convention center.”
“We are incredibly excited to bring our authentically African resort experience to the Southwest for the first time,” said Todd Nelson, owner of Kalahari Resorts and Conventions. “The city of Round Rock has been incredibly welcoming, and we look forward to finalizing plans to officially become a part of this great community.”
The Austin American Statesman reports that the resort has been in talks with the city for nearly two years, as they worked out the location for the project. They ultimately settled on a space near the Dell Diamond. Unfortunately, there is no word yet on ground-breaking or opening date, but in the meantime you can try your best to beat the summer heat at one of these Central Texas swimming holes.
